KDP Royalty Calculator
Estimate your Kindle eBook or paperback royalty using Amazon's published formulas.
What is the KDP Royalty Calculator?
This tool estimates what you'll actually earn per sale on Kindle Direct Publishing, using Amazon's own published royalty formulas for both eBooks and paperbacks — not a rough percentage guess.
eBook royalty formula
The 70% royalty plan applies only to list prices between $2.99 and $12.99 (this ceiling was raised from $9.99 in July 2026); Amazon also deducts a delivery fee of $0.15 per megabyte of your file size before paying out the 70%. Outside that price range, or on the 35% plan, there's no delivery fee, but the base rate is lower. For many small, text-only eBooks the 70% plan wins; for large, image-heavy files the delivery fee can eat much of the advantage — this calculator shows you the actual number either way.
Paperback royalty formula
Paperback royalty = (List Price × 60% if priced at $9.99 or above, else 50%) minus the printing cost. Printing cost = $1.00 fixed fee plus a per-page cost that depends on interior type: roughly $0.012/page for black & white, $0.0255/page for standard color, and $0.065/page for premium color (US marketplace).
A note on accuracy
Amazon periodically updates its royalty rates, price thresholds and printing costs. This calculator uses Amazon's most recently published formulas as of 2026 (verified against current publishing guides); double-check against your KDP Bookshelf's own royalty estimate before finalizing your pricing, since Amazon's dashboard always reflects the live, current numbers.
