YAML Formatter
Format YAML, validate it, and convert it to JSON.
What is the YAML Formatter?
YAML is a human-friendly data format widely used for configuration files (Docker Compose, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions and countless other tools), where indentation itself defines the structure. This tool re-serializes your YAML with clean, consistent indentation, checks it for syntax errors, and can convert it directly into equivalent JSON.
How to use it
- Paste your YAML into the input box.
- Click Format YAML to clean up its structure, or Convert to JSON to see the same data as JSON.
- If there's a syntax error — often a spacing or indentation mistake — the message tells you which line to check.
Because YAML uses indentation (not brackets) to represent nesting, a single misplaced space is a very common source of broken config files, and error messages from YAML parsers can be cryptic on their own. This tool parses your YAML using the well-established js-yaml library and reports parsing errors with a line number, and the JSON conversion is useful whenever a tool or API expects JSON but your source configuration is more naturally written in YAML.
